Readout
Drop any media file and see exactly what it is — codec, resolution, frame rate, audio layout, timecode.
- 1Open Readout
- 2Drop a clip onto the page
- 3Read the facts; select any value to copy it
What it’s for
File names lie. Readout reads the file itself and shows the facts you need before you cut, deliver, or archive.
Inspect a file
- Open Readout.
- Drag a file onto the page, or click to choose one.
- Read.
What you’ll see
Video: container and codec (ProRes 422 HQ, H.264, BRAW…), resolution, frame rate, scan type, bit rate, duration, color primaries and transfer where available, timecode start.
Audio: codec, sample rate, channel count and layout, bit depth, bit rate.
File: size, created and modified dates, full path.
Values are plain text, so you can select and copy them into an email or a shot list.
Tips
- Drop a folder of clips and step through them with the arrows to compare settings across cameras.
- If Readout can’t read a file, check Troubleshooting; it usually means the file is still being written or is a format Readout doesn’t recognize.
